Language Arts Reading Specialist: Students experiencing difficulty in learning to read may receive services from the language arts reading specialist (LARS). This specialist provides students reading below grade level in reading with small group instruction in basic reading skills. Such instruction is coordinated with classroom teachers. The LARS manages the language arts, school-wide reading program to insure that the language arts reading standards are met for each child. The main focus of the LARS is to promote reading and writing in the school. Other support programs include READ 180 (Reading Intervention), Compensatory Education and Reading Recovery.

Reading Recovery Teacher: Students who are in the first grade and considered " at risk" in learning to read may qualify for a special tutoring program in reading called Reading Recovery. A Reading Recovery teacher implements this special program. Students qualifying for these services receive one-to-one help daily for 12-20 school weeks. In this program students learn strategies to increase their achievement in reading to that of an average first grader or higher. Enrollment in this reading program is based on recommendations received from a kindergarten/first grade teacher and an observation survey as coordinated and finalized by the Reading Recovery teacher.
